The Office of the Public Service Commission hosted a three-day intensive training for Certified Investigation Officers, from the 21st to 23rd June, 2022. The training comes at such a crucial time where the Public Service and the Commission have faced an increasing number of investigations, which validates the pooling of relevant public servants to be trained and certified to carry out investigations. A total of 23 participants were invited to attend on the basis of their experience and expertise in the area of investigations. The training covered the legal framework, principles of natural justice as well as manuals and policies guiding the process for investigations. Thus the training was designed to ensure that participants would have the ability to
• demonstrate understanding of the Legal Framework as well as Legal Principles and Concepts;
• demonstrate profound knowledge in the Breach of the Code of Conduct Process;
• demonstrate excellent Investigating Officers Skills and Techniques;
• demonstrate effective Communication Skills; and
• demonstrate understanding in completing an Investigations Officers Report Template.
This encompassing context and interactive learning was further supported by guest speakers from the Office of the Ombudsman, the Samoa Police Prisons and the Public Service Commission who are leading investigations in their scope of work. On the 23rd June 2022, Chairman of the Public Service Commission – Lauano Vaosa Epa welcomed the newly certified investigation officers of the public service, and officially closed the training with a word of thanks to all the participants for their invaluable contributions.
