A workshop on Job Hunting Orientation was held at the PSC Conference Room on the 8th May 2018. This was an initiative that the Office of the Public Service started 2 years ago to assist school leavers and graduates who are currently looking for employment in the Public Service.
Seven participants completed the training focusing on:
- gaining a general understanding of the Public Service and its functions;
- understanding employment processes and procedures in the Public Service;
- locating jobs and requesting for application packages;
- filling forms and answering selection criteria;
- writing curriculum vitae and cover letter;
- preparing for a successful interview.
The caliber of those that attended include school leavers as well as certificate, diploma and degree holders. The training kicked off with a presentation highlighting the structure and functions of the Public Service. The remaining time was then given for participants to have a one-on-one practical session with our Human Resource Development staff.
Participants reflected on how highly important the training was for them at this time of looking for employment. The one-on-one sessions were very productive as participants sat down with our staff to fill application forms, write CVs and cover letters and practice for interviews. They also acknowledged with appreciation the new knowledge and skills acquired which they will apply accordingly.
In closing, Sarona Esera, ACEO HRD thanked participants for taking the time to attend this important training and encouraged them to have the confidence to apply and seek assistance from our staff when needed. Gratitude was also conveyed to GEF and EWACC through MNRE for their continual support and contribution to the success of training programs.
